Summary

Explore the heart of Switzerland and visit some of the most beautiful spots including Bern, Geneva, Lucerne, Lugano, Zermatt and Zurich on this 8-day escorted packaged tour. During this tour, you will also cross the border into Italy and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Your trip starts in Zurich. You will transfer to the charming city of Lucerne, a charming city that sits on the banks of Lake Lucerne. Explore the old town including the famous Chapel Bridge, one of the oldest wooden bridges in Europe. From Lucerne, head to the mountain resort of Engelberg and enjoy a panoramic cable car ride to the summit of Mount Titlis, a mountain of the Uri Alps and the highest summit of the range north of the Susten Pass. Continue to Interlaken then to the capital city of Bern. Explore the city’s old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site brimming with historic towers, fountains and museums. Head to south and visit the scenic hilltop village of Gruyeres. Continue to Geneva, the French-speaking city located at the southern tip of Lake Geneva surrounded by the Alps and Jura Mountain. After Geneva, head to Lausanne, Montreux then Zermatt. Zermatt is a mountain resort located below the iconic Matterhorn. Enjoy spectacular views of snow-capped mountain peaks with a cog-wheel train ride up to Gornergrat. Continue your journey to the sun-kissed city of Lugano and the popular resort town of St. Moritz. You will also visit Liechtenstein, a principality located between Switzerland and Austria.

Itinerary

Day 1, Zurich – Lucerne – Mt. Titlis – Interlaken
Leave Zurich at 8:30 a.m. A short drive takes you to the city of Lucerne where you visit the Lion Monument and walk over the 14th century wooden bridge, time at leisure for shopping and sightseeing. At noon, proceed to the mountain resort of Engelberg. A cable car ride to the summit of Mount Titlis brings you up into the high alpine region with its glaciers and eternal ice. Enjoy a magnificent ride in the new revolving “ROTAIR” gondola. (Take a warm sweater along.) In the afternoon, cross Brünig Pass to the Bernese Oberland and reach the village Brienz, which is famous for its long tradition of woodcarving. Continue to the holiday resort of Interlaken at the foot of Jungfrau Mountain. Dinner on your own. Overnight at first class hotel.

Day 2, Interlaken – Bern – Gruyeres – Geneva
Leave Interlaken in the morning and drive along beautiful Lake of Thun to the Swiss capital, Bern. The city is attractively set on a steep sided curve of the River Aare and backed by the majestic Alps. A city tour to the Old Town includes the Clock Tower, Kramgasse, and the 15th century Cathedral of St. Vincent. A drive south takes you to the scenic dairy farmlands, to Gruyères. A beautiful hilltop town, preserved against time, which could be the magical setting for fairy tales with its impressive, medieval castle. An informative visit to a factory of delicious milk product is a further highlight of our day. Continue your tour to the Vaud Riviera and reach Geneva, the most cosmopolitan city of Switzerland. Dinner on your own. Overnight at superior tourist class hotel.

Day 3, Geneva – Montreux – Zermatt
Start with a city tour of Geneva this morning. Enjoy a stroll on beautiful parks along the lake, the unique town-hall and the European seat of the United Nations. In the late morning, you leave Geneva and drive to Lausanne and Montreux. Pass by Chillon Castle, the 13th century fortress made famous by Lord Byron’s poem. In the afternoon, proceed through the Valais, the valley of the river Rhone with its orchards and vineyards. At Täsch, you will board a cogwheel train that takes us to the mountain resort of Zermatt at the foot of the mighty Matterhorn. Dinner and overnight at first class hotel.

Day 4, Zermatt – Nufenen Pass – Lugano
Morning at leisure in Zermatt – admire the quaint old farm houses and barns in their unique style, do some shopping, relax or take an optional cogwheel train up to Gornergrat for a spectacular view of the surrounding snow-covered peaks. After noon, board the train to Täsch where the bus is waiting to take us over the breathtaking Nufenen Pass into the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, to the garden city of Lugano. Dinner on your own. Overnight at first class hotel.

Day 5, Lugano – Lake Como – Maloja Pass – St. Moritz
Leave Lugano and drive along the scenic road to Gandria where you cross the border into Italy. Along the romantic shores of Lake Como, pass by Menaggio and reach Chiavenna in the lovely Bregaglia Valley. In Castasegna, you re-enter to Switzerland and drive thirteen hairpin bends over the Maloja Pass. Passing by crystal blue Lake Sils and Silvaplana, you reach the world renowned mountain resort of St. Moritz in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at first class hotel.

Day 6, St. Moritz - Principality of Liechtenstein – Zurich
Leave St. Moritz in the morning and cross the Julier Pass to Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland which has a settlement history of over 5000 years. Continue to the capital of Principality of Liechtenstein and visit Vaduz its capital. This tiny country with the mighty castle, which is the home of the present Prince and his family, attracts visitors from all over the world. In the afternoon, you will return to Zurich through the Toggenburg region with its picturesque farmhouses. Arrival in Zurich at approximately 5:00 pm.

Day 7, Zurich – Rapperwils – Lake Zurich
At 10:00 am, pick up by bus from hotel for a guided sightseeing tour of Zurich and its surroundings. Later, the journey follows the Hoehenstrasse that offers spectacular views of the Alps before ascending to Rapperswil, the town of Roses, where a visit to the Rosegarden, the castle and the deer park is included. Return journey is by boat at approximately 4:00 pm. Return to hotel is individually.

Day 8, Departure
Your tour ends after breakfast at the hotel.
