Day 2, Zurich - Appenzell
Today, a full day excursion takes you to the stunning, green and hilly countryside as seen in the Heidi movies. Stop at the picturesque village of Appenzell where you will be introduced to the art of cheese making on a 1-hour guided tour including cheese tasting. In the Appenzell show dairy in Stein the traditional customs and state-of-the-art cheese production go hand in hand to create an intriguing mix of old and new. You also stop at the Cultural and Historical museum of Appenzell which focuses on embroideries, handicraft and traditional customs.

Overnight at your hotel in Zurich.

Day 3, Lucerne – Stanserhorn
Full day excursion to the Stanserhorn. In the morning, transfer from Zurich to Lucerne by train. Check in at the hotel.

Early afternoon board a paddle steamer from the main pier in Lucerne opposite the railway station and cruise to Hergiswil. A short walk to the railway station where you connect to a train towards Stans. From the station in Stans it takes about 5-10 minutes right across the old town to the valley station of the Stanserhorn Bahn.

For the first section you take a vintage railway dating from 1830 and then - an extreme contrast - the world’s first open top cable car “CabriO”. The open upper deck and large glass front are truly breathtaking and spectacular. Up on the summit you can do the circular hiking trail (approx. 30 min.). The Stanserhorn Rangers, are volunteers working on the mountain and will explain everything about the mountain and they know a lot of stories to tell.

In the afternoon, return to Lucerne with a direct train from Stans (approximately 20 minutes).

Overnight at your hotel in Lucerne.

Day 4, Bern
Take a train from Lucerne to Bern where you check into your accommodation. Later, enjoy a guided tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. On this stroll through Bern’s Old town, you’ll learn more about the city’s 800-year history. Amongst the highlights marvel at the late Gothic cathedral (Münster) with its stunning portal and its depiction of the Last Judgment’.

Overnight at your hotel in Bern.

Day 5, Montreux
Breakfast at hotel. Onward via rail to Montreux. Check into your hotel. Enjoy a visit to the château de Chillon. An architectural jewel located along eastern end the shore of Lake Geneva. Learn about its intriguing history as a Roman outpost as a strategic outpost through the Alpine passes.

Overnight at your hotel in Montreux.

Day 6, Basel
Breakfast at hotel. Rail transfer to Basel. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure in Basel. The city on the banks of the Rhine borders France and Germany.
